MST Maps
The best resources for detailed information and summary maps of the MST is in Allen de Hart's guidebook called "Hiking North Carolina's Mountians-To-Sea Trail."
Click on this link for additional information with links to trailhads and detailed topo maps for some sections of the MST. This is a volunteer GPS mapping project that is ongoing for 2008 and beyond.

The Carolina Mountain Club (CMC) has an extensive website that can assist you in finding maps of their section of the MST. The CMC maintains the MST from Mt. Pisgah to Black Mountain Campground.
The section of the MST from Richland Balsam to Pisgah Inn can be viewed on the US Forest Service map titled "Shinning Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness". You can purchase this map on-line at:http://www.cradleofforestry.com/store.asp This map was updated in May 2003. On all Forest Service maps the MST also is known by trail number 440.
The section of the MST from Craggy Gardens to Woods Mtn can be viewed on the US Forest Service map titled "South Toe River, Mount Mitchell and Big Ivy Trail Maps". You can purchase this map on-line at: http://www.cradleofforestry.com/store.aspThis map was updated in February 2004. On all Forest Service maps the MST also is known by trail number 440.
The section of the MST in the Livnille Gorge Wilderness, Pisgah National Forest can be viewed on the US Forest Service map titled "Linville Gorge Wilderness" You can purchase this map on-line at: http://www.cradleofforestry.com/store.aspThis map was printed in June 1997. On all Forest Service maps the MST also is known by trail number 440.

The Sauratown Trails Association (STA) has a new map that can be purchased from their website for $4.00. The STA section is a horse and hiking trail connecting Pilot Mountain State Park and Hanging Rock State Park. You can also download the PDF version of the STA map here!

The Falls Lake Task Forces offer a very basic map of their twenty six mile section of the MST from HW-50 to the Falls Lake Dam. You can download this PDF Map File here! You can also download a basic trail guide that goes along with the map here!
