The Board of
Directors of the Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail launched
an Incentive Program in 2001. Now patron members can earn free trail crew
t-shirts or hats after accumulating 75 hours of trail service. The new
T-shirts are being specially designed for this program. The new design
will be modified from T-shirts available to the general public so that
Trail Crew patron members are recognized properly.

Great Outdoor Provision Company Creates the 20/20 Program One of North Carolina's most well known outdoor stores has offered MST volunteers another reward for service given to the trail. If you have not started keeping track of your service hours, do so now because those hours just might add up to discounted gear at Great Outdoor Provision Company! For 20 hours of trail maintenance or trail construction, Great Outdoor Provision Company will give a 20% gift certificate off any single, regularly priced item. Thus, this incentive program has been named the "20/20 Program." Please visit the store's website for locations across the state. Hours for this program start January 1, 2005 and will run until December 31, 2005. The same forms used in the FMST Incentive Program (see above) can be used for the 20/20 Program. All forms should be sent to the following address:
As of November 22, 2002, your hours count even more when you volunteer on the MST! North Carolina Division of State Parks and Recreation has recently included the MST in its "Volunteer Program." This program rewards North Carolinians who generously give their time and effort to the MST. Therefore, volunteers who contribute a minimum of 100 hours of trail service during a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) may receive a pass for a free campsite for one week at any park or recreation area within this State. Volunteers who contribute a minimum of 200 hours may receive a pass for a free campsite for two weeks at any park or recreation area within this State. This award never expires and can be split and used at multiple State Parks for camping fees and or bathhouse fees (e.g. 3 weekend trips instead of a single week-long stay). Hours are retroactive to July 1, 2002, so check your records carefully! The same forms that are used in the FMST Incentive Program (see above) can be used for the "Volunteer Program." All forms should be sent to the following address:
