Trail Workday and Cookout on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Deep Gap
Trail workday
Saturday, October 10, 2009, 1 day
8:30 AM

General Location: Mountains, Ashe County near Deep Gap/West Jefferson

Length:  N/A

Difficulty:  Strenuous, but we can adjust to abilities.

Contact:  Jim Hallsey, 336-877-8831, jhallsey2@cs.com

Meeting Place:  Jeffress Park, Cascades Picnic Area, near mile post 272 on the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 4 miles north of Parkway junction with US 421 east of Boone)

Description:  Help close one of the few remaining gaps in the trail along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We’ll be building new trail so work may include using a rake and mattox (similar to a pickaxe), brush clearing, moving logs, and picking up debris. Cookout for all volunteers after the workday.

What to Bring:  Some tools will be provided, but you can bring mattocks, hand loppers, hand bow saws and leaf rakes. Bring plenty of water, sturdy work boots, gloves, a jacket and raingear, lunch and energy snacks. A light day pack with first aid kit will also be helpful. The worksite is near the parkway so access to your vehicle should be easy and nearby. For questions, contact Jim Hallsey (contact info above).

Organized By:  Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail

Sponsored By: Cook's Sports, Gary Jordan and Boy Scout Troop 335
