Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Generally not suitable for young children. Contact: John Lanman, jelanman@charter.net; 828-963-6901 Meeting Place: Thunder Hill Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, milepost 290.3, which is 1.5 miles north of the intersection of the parkway and U.S. 321. Description: Join FMST for a weekend of fun “digging trail” as we work to close one of the last gaps in the trail along Blue Ridge Parkway. We’ll be building new trail, and work may include using a rake and mattox (similar to a pickaxe) to build new trail and remove roots, brush clearing, moving logs, and picking up debris. Limited camping on the parkway may be available. For camping details and reservations, contact Allen deHart, ADH4771@aol.com, no later than September 10. What to Bring: Please wear work clothes and boots, and bring a bag lunch, plenty of water, work gloves, and sunscreen. We have a great supply of tools, and we'll give you training on how to use them.
